Peacock has renewed its hit competition series “The Traitors” for two additional seasons, the streaming platform announced Wednesday. Alan Cumming will return as the host for both Season 4 and Season 5, continuing his role on the Emmy-winning show.
The renewal comes as production on Season 3 of “The Traitors” wraps up. The series has garnered significant acclaim, with its second season currently nominated for four Emmy Awards. Categories include Outstanding Reality Competition Program, Outstanding Directing for a Reality Series, Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Series, and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program for Cumming.
In addition to the Emmy nominations, Season 2 received recognition for Outstanding Achievement in Reality at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards. It also became the most-watched unscripted series in the U.S. across all streaming platforms during its launch week, according to Nielsen data.
On a recent episode of Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Cumming reflected on his unique role in “The Traitors.” He shared insights about portraying a more exaggerated version of himself on the show and discussed the impact of his distinctive wardrobe. Cumming also mentioned a deleted scene involving his character and his assistant, which did not make the final cut of Season 2.
Cumming expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the series, describing it as a refreshing and unconventional experience. “Chewing the scenery,” as he puts it, has been a highlight for him. “I really love that,” Cumming said. “It’s kind of a dichotomy of absolute improvise, being in the moment, and then these big sort of set pieces.” He also noted how “The Traitors” allows him to subvert traditional notions of hosting. “I think that’s also interesting for me, as the kind of performer I am, to be sort of subverting the notion of a host as well,” Cumming added.
The first season of “The Traitors” earned an Emmy for casting, setting a high bar for the show’s subsequent seasons. Both Season 1 and Season 2 are available for streaming on Peacock. Fans can look forward to Season 3, which is set to premiere early next year and will feature a new lineup of 21 contestants.
The upcoming season will include a diverse group of participants such as Bob Harper from “The Biggest Loser,” Bob The Drag Queen from “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Britney Haynes from “Big Brother,” Carolyn Wiger from “Survivor,” and Chanel Ayan from “The Real Housewives of Dubai.” Other notable contestants include Chrishell Stause from “Selling Sunset,” Ciara Miller from “Summer House,” and Danielle Reyes from “Big Brother.”

As the show continues to captivate audiences with its blend of strategy and drama, viewers can anticipate even more excitement and intrigue in the upcoming seasons.
