SNL, at its heart, may be the most apolitical sketch show of all time. Only two years after then candidate Donald Trump spouted his racist ideas in a White House sketch on the late-night show in 2015 to no laughs, Stormy Daniels, a woman currently embattled with Donald Trump over a payment he made to silence their affair to the tune of $130,000, appeared on SNL to talk to Ben Stiller’s Michael Cohen about the payment. The performance was — well… look, it’s SNL.
I’m no fan of the non-comedy actor doing a comedy actor performance, but it’s nice to see Stormy Daniels have a platform to sock it to the guy who had her life threatened in front of her daughter (played, terribly as always, by Alec Baldwin, but it makes the president mad, so whatever). Stormy was joined by Martin Short as Dr. Bornstein, Scarlett Johansson and Jimmy Fallon as Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, Aidy Bryant as the very sensitive to being called a liar Sarah Huckabee-Sanders and, my favorite, Kate McKinnon as Rudy Guliani. It’s a good time, and if Donald Trump ever for some reason becomes popular again, will no doubt be replaced with a sketch of special guest Dilbert artist Scott Adams throwing pies in Robert Mueller’s face.
