Due to COVID-19, New York City’s bars and clubs continue to remain closed. And what did people decide to do? Throw a party themselves. Hundreds of people went to a rave under a bridge in Brooklyn, with few people wearing masks and everyone really close to each other.
Before the event, pictures were being posted with Black Lives Matter signs, so a lot of people think that it was a protest that turned into a party.
The musician PicturePlane before the event tweeted that he was going to be the DJ at this rave that was going to be from 1:00am to 2:00am in Brooklyn. The DJ Mike Simonetti tweeted that he was invited to DJ the event as well, but had to turn down the invite. He tweeted, “Ok, so I was asked to play that party under the bridge last night, and I turned it down. My father died alone because of COVID. My mother was not allowed to see him until hours before he could die in hospice.”
I think this should have been a warning to those wanting to go. This was not a good idea during a pandemic.
This was all a week after that Chainsmokers “social distant” concert that happened in the Hamptons. It was all planned out to have families and groups separated, but everyone decided not to follow the rules. The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo said that he doesn’t know how the town of Hampton got a permit to hold the Chainsmokers event and that the town “is going to have a problem.”
All of these events during coronavirus, with no masks and no social distancing is not giving us hope for the future. Please don’t go to events like this and stay away from people! COVID-19 is nowhere close to being gone. Stay safe!
