Rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi on May 12, 2025. The 32-year-old artist, currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, sustained injuries that led to the collapse of both lungs. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Bakersfield and is now reported to be in stable condition.
The incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. during morning yard time. Prison officials confirmed that an inmate was injured and hospitalized but did not disclose the identities of those involved due to privacy and security policies. The motive behind the stabbing remains under investigation by both the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
Lanez was convicted in December 2022 on three felony charges related to the July 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. The charges included assault with a semiautomatic firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm. Megan testified that Lanez shot at her feet and told her to “dance” as she walked away from an SUV. She underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet.
In August 2023, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the shooting. In January 2025, Megan was granted a five-year restraining order against Lanez, citing ongoing harassment that allegedly continued during his incarceration.
Representatives for Lanez and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as the authorities continue their inquiries.
