Just nine months after Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed their first child, a son, Rihanna announced that she is pregnant again mid-Super Bowl Half Time performance. Last night’s medley of Rihanna’s biggest hits was well received by fans, who were excited to see her return to the stage after a nearly seven year hiatus from performing and producing new music. During that hiatus, Rihanna became a new mom, and has successfully launched a line of cosmetics, lingerie, and lounge wear. She even gave a quick shoutout to Fenty Beauty’s latest product during her performance.

This brief shoutout proved a successful marketing move, as searches for Fenty Beauty and streaming numbers for Rihanna’s music went up astronomically following her 13-minute half time show performance.

Later in the performance, Rihanna wore a long red puffer trench coat. Some pointed out that this was likely a homage to acclaimed fashion journalist Andre Leon Talley, who passed away in 2022.

Even with hundreds of dancers and a recreation of Rihanna’s pop hits “Umbrella” and “Diamonds”, it was Rihanna’s striking all red ensemble that showcased her baby bump that had people talking. The outfit was designed by luxury brands Loewe and Alaïa. Since her first pregnancy, Rihanna has been applauded for making pregnancy fashion more inclusive. Even before her pregnancies, she was praised for collaborating with Lizzo and several plus size models of several gender identities for her clothing line, Savage x Fenty.

Fans were surprised to see Rihanna pregnant shortly after giving birth to her first child in 2022, but were happy to cheer her on from the sidelines, and emotional to see how far she’s come.

Ahead of her Super Bowl half time performance, Rihanna spoke about how much she loves spending time with her son. While some fans took this as a sign that there may not be new music soon, Rihanna has only continued to prove that her creativity knows no bounds–shortly after giving birth to her son, she released her song “Lift Me Up”, which was featured in the 2022 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The song even received an Oscar nomination.

Rihanna’s pregnancy has set a newfound understanding for pregnant celebrities, in particular musicians. Pregnancy was previously viewed as a setback from business standpoint in countless male-dominated fields, but Rihanna has proven it to be one of her biggest strengths. Though Rihanna hopes to maintain a balance in which she is able to spend time with her children, she has expressed interest in continuing to make music, and expand her growing brand empire.

Regardless of what Rihanna does next career wise, fans look forward to her unapologetically authentic fashion sense and inclusivity. She was one of the first makeup entrepreneurs to incorporate a vast shade range of foundation with Fenty Beauty, and one of the first fashion entrepreneurs to include plus sized male models on her site.

Now that Rihanna will experience a summertime pregnancy, some wonder if her iconic pregnancy fashion will be included in a new line for Savage x Fenty. One thing is for certain–Rihanna is always going to work, work, work the red carpet and the stage.
