New documents reveal that actress Sophie Turner is suing soon-to-be ex-husband and pop star Joe Jonas of The Jonas Brothers for custody of their two children. Turner, who is originally from the U.K., wishes to bring their children back to her home country of England to raise them.
Turner filed the petition in New York City. The document cites the “wrongful retention” of their children “in New York City from their habitual residence of England,” and that they had made England their “permanent” home in April of 2023. The “Game Of Thrones” actress was spotted in New York City earlier this week going out to dinner with longtime friend (and ironically, a Joe Jonas ex) Taylor Swift.
The First Filing
The initial public records of the filing were obtained by CNN. Jonas filed the petition in Miami Dade County in Florida. The file refers to the marriage as “irretrievably broken.”
Turner has starred in a number of notable productions, including the acclaimed “Game Of Thrones” franchise on HBO. The couple married in 2019, and share two daughters together. Rumors of a split first emerged earlier this week, but Jonas wearing his wedding ring during a live performance on the Jonas Brothers’ current tour had some fans hoping for otherwise.
The actress and musician first married in Las Vegas in a small ceremony officiated by an Elvis impersonator. Later, they held a luxurious ceremony that took place at the picturesque Château de Tourreau in the south of France, according to Elle. Several of Turner’s “Game Of Thrones” cast mates were present at the ceremony.
Jonas and Turner famously shared humorous glimpses into their relationship throughout their marriage. Jonas notoriously dated singer-songwriter Taylor Swift in the early 2000s, and unwittingly became the subject of several of her early-career breakup anthems, including allegedly “Mr. Perfectly Fine” from “Fearless” and “Last Kiss” from “Speak Now.”

Swift has since forged a friendship with Jonas and Turner, with the couple attending an SNL performance of hers. Swift allegedly nods to Jonas in her track “invisible string”, in which she sings “cold was the axe I had to grind for the boys that broke my heart/now I buy their babies presents.” Fans of the singer quickly also became fans of both Turner and Jonas amid the newfound friendship.

Fans of Turner continue to issue their support for the actress amid the highly publicized split. When the divorce was first announced, numerous anonymous sources went to TMZ and Page Six with allegedly false stories that some point back to Jonas’ team. Some feel that the singer was attempting to make Turner look like a bad mother in the public eye.

Others applauded Swift for her public support of Turner. Despite Swift’s recent friendship with the couple, many feel that Turner is in the right in the custody battle, and that the singer has “chosen the right side.”
