While the shiniest celebrities and biggest fashion icons come together for the Met Gala, one particular power couple will be missing what is essentially celebrity prom.
In what many describe as “fashion’s biggest night” or “the Super Bowl of fashion,” Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will not be attending the ball held on the first Monday of May. According to TMZ, each individually received an invitation, but both responded no. It’s not surprising, as Taylor has not attended the Met Gala since 2016. Also, she’s kicking off the European leg of her Eras tour in Paris on May 9, and we can presume that Kelce wouldn’t attend the Gala without his girlfriend.
However, Taylor Swift fans were hoping that the pair, who are on the most successful streaks of their respective careers, would make an official debut on the most stylish stage. Kelce is also busy on his post-Super Bowl victory lap, attending major sporting events such as the Kentucky Derby and the 2024 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix sans The Tortured Poet’s Department singer this past weekend.
However, Wintour commented on whether Swift would be attending this year’s Met Gala during an interview with Today’s Jenna Bush Hager about the big event. At the end of the segment, Hager mentions to her co-hosts that she asked Wintour about Swift’s RSVP status, on her daughter’s behalf. To which Wintour replied, “I hope she comes and enjoys the exhibit.”
The Met Gala is a celebration and fundraiser for New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, of which Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is the governor. This year, she has picked Zendaya (Challengers), Jennifer Lopez (This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, upcoming Atlas), Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Love and Thunder, the upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), and Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny as co-chairs.This year, the dress code for the Gala is “The Garden of Time,” based on the short story of the same name by J.G. Ballard, which compliments the Met’s new “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” installation.
