Taylor Swift Is Teaming Up With Ice Spice On A “Karma” Remix

Taylor Swift is staying up until dawn. Amid her record-breaking “The Eras Tour” the singer-songwriter has been seen making several pit stops to Electric Lady Studios in New York City’s West Village. Some of those sessions could have been for a new edition of “Midnights.” Swift announced via social media that “Midnights: Till Dawn Edition” hits streaming services at midnight, with CD editions available of the new tracks at her upcoming tour stop in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

In addition to the “Karma” remix, Swift will also release the previously Target exclusive “Hits Different” and a more Lana Del Rey-heavy “Snow On The Beach.” A vault track titled “You’re Losing Me” is also set for release. Naturally, as Swift is known to communicate with listeners and the public through her music, fans are about to zero in on the new tracks for clues.

Why The Ice Spice Feature Is Significant

Taylor Swift has been spotted alongside the 1975 frontman Matty Healy after The Sun reported that the pair were in a romantic relationship. Neither has confirmed nor denied the rumors about their personal lives, though Healy has appeared at several of Swift’s concerts along her lengthy “The Eras Tour.” After the pair were spotted leaving Electric Lady studios together with a list of star studded musicians and actors in tow, rumors of a collaboration additionally began swirling.

But before Swift was linked to Healy, the 1975 singer made controversial remarks about Ice Spice. Taylor Swift met the 23-year-old rapper at the iHeart Radio Music Awards, and the pair appeared to strike up a friendship. Around this time, Healy appeared on “The Adam Friedland Show” and referred to Spice as a “chubby Chinese woman” who “only had one song.” Spice has previously confirmed that she is Nigerian and Dominican. Healy later apologized mid-concert for his insensitive remarks.

Given Healy’s comments on Ice Spice, some are taking her feature on Swift’s track as an olive branch. At the 2009 MTV VMAs, Kanye West infamously stormed the stage and interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech. In the many years since the incident, Swift has repeatedly stated her intentions about sticking up for other young women artists.

Ice Spice reposted Swift’s social media announcement with a message about her experience working with Taylor Swift.

Easter Eggs

The cover for “Karma (feat. Ice Spice)” shows the pair lassoing the moon and Saturn, which some fans of both artists think could be a reference to Swift’s “Folklore” track “Seven.” Spice has previously complimented the track.

Alternative R&B artist SZA also voiced support for the collaboration. SZA recently collaborated with indie rock singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers (one of Swift’s current tour openers) on her 2022 album “SOS.”
