British comedian and television personality James Corden’s run on “The Late Late Show” has come to an end. Corden began hosting the ABC program in 2015, and rapidly popularized his unique “Carpool Karaoke” “Spill Your Guts Or Fill Your Guts” and “Crosswalk The Musical.” Despite the long list of memorable celebrity guest appearances and humorous skits on the show, the program’s success was tarnished with controversy recently.

Allegations of rude and toxic behavior from Charles continue to pile up. In the fall of 2022, Balthazar’s, an upscale restaurant in New York City, temporarily banned the late night star. After owner Keith McNulty made the ban public, Corden addressed it on his show. The host said that  he could “cook the omelette himself” for his wife after it was served containing an allergen.

Months afterwards, television director Craig Duncan came forward and referred to Corden as “the most difficult and obnoxious presenter I have ever worked with.”  Corden never responded to the allegations of poor on-set manners, leading viewers to have conflicted feelings about the program ending.

The Final Episode

The host opted to close out the show in typical Corden fashion–with star-studded guest appearances from Harry Styles and Will Ferrell. Styles particularly maintains a close personal friendship with the former “Late Late Show” host. The fellow Brit and Grammy winning singer guest-hosted the program while Corden’s wife, Julia Carey, gave birth to the couple’s third child several years ago.

A skit of a “kidnap cam” depicting each member of boy band One Direction (which launched Styles’ music career) had viewers suspecting a long awaited 1D reunion. While this was not the case, Styles did unveil a sweet tribute to the late night talk show that served as a big part of his early career. Styles is known for his eclectic array of unique tattoos, and the singer added a “Late Late Show” ink to his arm.

Styles has appeared on the show numerous times since Corden began hosting in 2015. The singer took part in several of Corden’s typical segments for one last time, including “Spill Your Guts Or Fill Your Guts.” Styles famously once appeared on the segment alongside his ex-girlfriend, model Kendall Jenner. The segment requires guests to spill juicy confessions or eat a bizarre food item. Styles answered the question lingering on everyone’s minds–whether he’d be open to a One Direction reunion.

Viewer Reactions

Some continue to hold out hope for a One Direction reunion to happen soon.

Amid Corden’s latest controversies, the internet focused on the guests of the “Late Late Show” finale. Styles additionally went into detail about his confusing Grammys performance, while Ferrell kept audiences laughing throughout the show.
