Why is Tube Girl Dancing on Subways?

At just 22 years old, Tube Girl is a TikTok star hailing from Malaysia but currently residing and working in the bustling metropolis of London. Despite living in the city, Bahsoon shared her daily routine of commuting on the tube with the BBC and explained how the idea for her videos was born.

“I have to commute everywhere because I live quite far out from everyone,” Sabrina revealed. “So, on the way back home after a night out, I’d put my music on. And when you’re bumping your head, people don’t come up to you; people leave you alone a bit more. So, I was feeling safer and enjoying my journey a bit better.”

Fan’s Favorite Thing About Tube Girl

While her motivation to dance unabashedly on the tube initially came from a desire for personal safety, Tube Girl’s followers are enchanted by her unshakable confidence. Her video comment sections are filled with praise such as “Loving the confidence and self-love trend you started” and “The confidence you’re giving, girlies. Tube Girl is a MOVEMENT.” Sabrina herself addressed those who questioned her confidence to dance alone in public with a TikTok captioned, “Live your life, romanticize your journey, trust me, no one actually cares.”

However, as with any viral sensation, there has been no shortage of negative reactions to Tube Girl’s content. Sabrina Bahsoon spoke candidly to the BBC about her response to the hate comments she receives, saying, “Honestly, I don’t take it to heart at all. I think that [hate] is very common when girls are having fun, when they’re seen as enjoying themselves and when they take pride in their value.”
