After the 2022 Grammy nominations were announced yesterday, many on Twitter were reacting to the nominations, including who they believed deserved a nomination, who they believed did not, and who they believe was snubbed. In case your award show slang is not up to date, a snub is to be ignored.
Some of the nominations
Let’s go over some of the top nominations, though you can look over all the nominations yourself on the Grammys‘ website. As many expected, TikTok’s favorite star Olivia Rodrigo was nominated in 7 categories, including Album of the Year and Best New Artist. Her hit song “driver’s license” was also nominated for song of the year, which many believed was well deserved. Not only was she nominated in 7 different categories, but four of those nominations were also in the “big four” categories, which are song of the year, a record of the year, best new artist, and best album. This is obviously a big deal because this is her first album.
Olivia Rodrigo celebrates her 7 #GRAMMYs nominations:

Also, Taylor Swift’s Evermore was nominated for Album of the year, which Swift has won 3 times, and most recently with Evermore’s “sister album” Folklore. Surprisingly, though, this was her only nomination. Technically, though, she is nominated and credited as a writer for Rodrigo’s Sour. Some fans of Swift were upset, though, as she is normally nominated for more than one thing in the past.

Despite this, Swift was still grateful and posted an acoustic version of one of her songs featured on the album- entitled “Champagne Problems.”
Who was snubbed?
Though many fans were excited for the nominations of their favorite artists, some could not help but notice there were a few artists missing. First, some were confused about the new artist nomination, as Olivia Rodrigo seemed to be the only true new artist, with the others already having distinguished careers. Others were confused that BTS was nominated only once in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category, with some claiming that it was the biggest snub of the year.

Others were also upset that Miley Cyrus was not nominated at all for her album Plastic Hearts. This even started to trend on Twitter for a while, as many were shocked that she did not receive any nominations in any category. Cyrus, however, shrugged it off.

All in all, many were excited for artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, SZA, and Doja Cat. Though some believed that some artists did not get as many nominations as they deserved, the 2022 Grammy’s will definitely be an interesting one to watch.
