What Your Favorite Celebrities Wore To The 2023 Met Gala

The Met Gala, hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art annually since 1948, has since become a cultural phenomena globally. Now hosted by Vogue since 1995, longtime Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour famously chooses a unique high fashion theme for the night. Every spring, the most important figures in fashion and entertainment unite in support for fundraising for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The 2023 Met Gala theme is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The late designer, who was a personal friend of Wintour’s, passed away in 2019.

Lagerfeld was a controversial figure in fashion. The German designer previously attracted criticism over his comments on the Me Too movement. Additionally, many feel the designer expressed fatphobic views. In an interview before his death, he said, “If you don’t want your pants pulled about, don’t become a model! Join a nunnery, there’ll always be a place for you in the convent. They’re recruiting even!”

Some fashion fanatics are wishing that this year’s Met Gala would have honored the recently passed Vivienne Westwood. Westwood is credited with merging punk fashion with classical elements in the high fashion world. Lagerfeld’s scandalous commentary is not a part of his memorial this evening.

Every year, the Met Gala sparks conversations. The celebrities in attendance often go to great lengths to be on-theme. One person, who still remains anonymous, was carried in wrapped in plastic so as to not spoil their outfit. Lagerfeld not only founded his eponymous brand–he additionally worked for Chanel, Valentino, and Fendi, many of which were notably represented at the Met.
