Nearly three decades after the release of “Bad Boys,” filmmaker Michael Bay and actor Will Smith are set to collaborate once again. Bay is currently in negotiations to direct the upcoming action film “Fast and Loose” for Netflix, with Smith cast as the lead.

The plot of “Fast and Loose” centers on a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories of his past. As he embarks on a journey to recover his lost recollections, he discovers he has been living dual lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent. The film promises to blend high-octane action with a compelling narrative, a hallmark of both Bay’s directorial style and Smith’s acting prowess.

The screenplay for “Fast and Loose” is the work of writers Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson. The production team includes Smith alongside Kelly McCormick and David Leitch from 87North Productions. Jon Mone, co-president and head of motion pictures at Westbrook Studios, and Ryan Shimazaki are also in talks to produce the film, along with executive producers Robert Simonds and Noah Fogelson from STXfilms and Barry Waldman.

Bay and Smith first joined forces for the 1995 action-comedy “Bad Boys,” which marked Bay’s feature directorial debut. The film was not only a commercial hit but also laid the groundwork for a successful franchise, leading to the sequels “Bad Boys II” (2003) and “Bad Boys for Life” (2020). The duo’s chemistry on screen contributed significantly to the films’ enduring popularity, and fans are eager to see what they will create together in this new project.

Will Smith has been in the spotlight recently, earning an Academy Award in 2021 for his portrayal of Richard Williams in “King Richard.” In 2022, he starred in Apple TV+’s “Emancipation,” a historical drama that garnered significant attention. Following “Fast and Loose,” Smith is set to appear in Sony Pictures’ sci-fi thriller “Resistor,” which is based on Daniel Suarez’s 2014 novel “Influx.”

Michael Bay, known for his explosive visual style and grand-scale productions, has an extensive filmography that includes the “Transformers” franchise, “Pearl Harbor,” and more. He is also in discussions to develop an animated adaptation of the viral internet meme “Skibidi Toilet” for both television and film in partnership with former Paramount Pictures president Adam Goodman. Additionally, Bay’s first docuseries, “Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior,” is scheduled to premiere on Labor Day through Investigation Discovery. He is represented by Range Media Partners.

The collaboration between Bay and Smith comes at a time when both are looking to reinvigorate their careers with fresh and exciting projects. The entertainment industry has seen a resurgence in interest in nostalgic partnerships, and the reunion of these two iconic figures is generating buzz among fans and industry insiders alike.
