A Bronx man who appeared in a web series on YouTube was found stabbed to death in his home. Tyrone Fleming’s day job was working for the energy company Con Edison, but he also played Tye Banga in the YouTube web series 848 — a crime drama set in the Bronx. Tragically, he was found dead by his girlfriend around 5:00 pm Wednesday evening. According to friends and neighbors, Fleming was a caring family man, and they aren’t sure why anyone would want to hurt him. One thing most friends agree on — they don’t believe the murder is connected to the web series.
Police spent Thursday combing Fleming’s apartment for evidence. So far, they haven’t made an arrest. Though one thing they do believe is that the murderer is someone Fleming knew since he let him into the building.
The 848 YouTube channel recently posted a trailer for season 3, and the premiere episode was initially supposed to be released on June 6. It’s unclear if the full season has been shot, or if production will be halted or postponed. Meanwhile, condolence comments have been pouring into the 848 YouTube channel.
Now, unfortunately, there’s been a mini-debate on Twitter about the validity of calling Fleming a “YouTube star” despite the fact that 848 only has 19,000 subscribers.

Of course, nobody’s really saying he was. Even the ABC News article that Perez himself shared called him a “YouTube series star”, which he was — the star of that YouTube series. It’s just a shame to start comparing people’s supposed accomplishments within hours of their death.
