"Game of Thrones" Intro Gets Nintendo-Style Remake

In Super Mario World, you win or you die. Luckily Mario has more lives.

  • After a dark and bloody fifth season, Game of Thrones fans may be looking for something a little more cheerful. But is there any other world out there as complex, varied and deeply layered as George R. R. Martin's fantasy epic? As a matter of fact, there is a world like that. A super world. A Super Mario World.

This painstaking re-creation of the Game of Thrones intro takes a tour through the Super Nintendo classic, making stops in Yoshi's Island, Donut Plains, and of course Chocolate Island. Put together by Steven Jase, with music by Paul LeBlanc, this perfect parody gets everything right: the 16-bit sounds, the swooping camera, even the names! (Never forget, Yoshi's full name is T. Yoshisaur "Yoshi" Munchakoopas.) It's a beautiful union of two classics that go surprisingly well together. Just like Game of Thrones, in Super Mario World you win or you die -- luckily the game starts you off with three lives.
