Gone For Years

In 2018, Dodger disappeared as the Davidson family was about to make a big move out of California and move to Florida. In the stressful move, the family lost sight of him and after many years of searching and hoping, the family lost all ideas of where he had gone.

Unexpected Discovery

The miracle struck when Dodger was recently discovered in Madera, California, and taken to Fresno Trap-Neuter-Return as a roaming cat. Employees who took him to be ready to be taken care of found out that he was already neutered and scanned his microchip, showing the contact information of his family.

The Microchip Miracle

That microchip was all the difference. After scanning, it linked rescuers directly to Amber Davidson who was shocked to get a late-night message that her seven-year-lost cat was found.

A Cross-Country Plan

One of the employees of Fresno TNR, Sydney Sherman, heard that the family had no longer lived in the neighborhood–they had moved to Georgia. Since she was already going to Florida, she volunteered to drive Dodger across the country to be reunited with them.

Then Dodger travelled the incredible distance of over 2,500 miles in the United States. Seventh-hour drive to Florida: the Davidson family drove to Florida where Sherman was to meet them again after close to ten years to see their missing cat once again.

Emotional Reunion

It was an emotional moment of reunion as the family had never ceased thinking about Dodger. Years of not knowing whether he would make it or not, having him alive and in good health was now a happy reality.

The Importance Of This Story

According to animal rescue professionals, the story of Dodger is quite inspirational, and it should be a lesson that pets should be microchipped. In the absence of that chip, he would probably never have been identified and returned to his family.

Hope For Pet Owners

To families that have lost cherished pets, the story of Dodger is a source of hope. Surprisingly, reunions can be achieved even after several years and in particular situations when pets are adequately labeled and concerned rescuers intervene to assist them.
