Oh, Canada!

Proud Canadians everywhere are waving their red and white maple leaf flags to celebrate their beloved country’s 147th birthday today. Though aptly referred to as Canada Day today, the holiday was originally called Dominion Day until October 27, 1982.

For you befuddled Americans out there, Canada Day is a celebration of the joining of the British Colonies of Upper Canada, Lower Canada, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia under the British North America Act (now known as the Constitution Act, 1867). Thereafter, Lower Canada was renamed as Quebec and Upper Canada renamed Ontario.

Nowadays, Canada is comprised of 10 provinces and three territories, all of which are, hopefully, enjoying the day by consuming lots of poutine and having multiple packs of Labatt or Molson.

    Happy Canada Day everyone!
