Netflix Gives First Look at Sequel to Horror Movie ‘The Platform 2’

Netflix has unveiled images for the new upcoming movie that is currently in production The Platform 2.

Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, the 2019 Spanish-language film follows a strange and eerie social experiment inside a vertical prison with a platform filled with food. As the platform lowers from top to bottom floor of nearly one hundred levels, prisoners each as much as they want leaving the bottom lower levels to starve.

The first film’s cast includes Iván Massagué, Antonia San Juan, Zorion Eguileor, Emilio Buale Coka, and Alexandra Masangkay, though the sequel will star Hovik Keuchkerian and Milena Smit.

In new images shared, cast members Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian’s characters are displayed inside the prison. The Netflix images show one sitting on a bed while another is wrapped in a blanket staring upward at an unknown horror.

The first movie in the series positioned itself as a film that left many with questions.

Many praised the movie for its concept and overall idea. Though the storyline concept had some confusion for viewers, the film managed to become a massive sleeper hit on the platform.

Within he first few weeks on the platform, the movie was able to garner 56 million household views. The film was also able to grab an 80% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The metaphor for the film of the platform resembling the distribution of wealth and resources in society captured audiences and started a large discussion online.

It is unclear if any of the original cast will be coming up for the second installment.

Many believe that the series will expand on the concept of introducing a “mysterious figure” that has established a new order.

There has yet to be a release date slated for the upcoming title.
