  • Demi Lovato recently gave props to Bruce Jenner for his beautifully uplifting Diane Sawyer interview where he revealed that not only does he identify as a woman, but that his family supports him, knocking down barriers for the Transgender community worldwide.

Here’s Demi Lovato’s heartfelt dedication live at her show in Auckland, NZ:

How many of you guys saw a really really inspiring interview last night?… I tweeted #fuckyeahbrucejenner.

I’ve come out with a lot of my issues… this whole fame thing starts taking over and then all of a sudden boom you’re in rehab (not everybody, but…) and then you’re in headlines and people… know your problems now.

An American hero, an Olympian, he was already a… hero in my country because of that (though I didn’t know who he was until Keeping Up with the Kardashians and let’s be honest, neither did you).

And I just wanted to dedicate this song, and it’s so cheesy that I’m doing this, but fuck it whatever. I dedicate this song to someone who became an even bigger hero last night: Bruce Jenner (by the way I never thought I’d dedicate a song to him). *Audience laughs* He was honest and he was open with his story.

And no matter if you agree with or not, he probably saved so many lives and educated so many people transitioning into being a woman and [being] transgender… So I just want to dedicate [this]. He looked fabulous last night. I could totally imagine him with a martini glass, I was like ‘YAAASSS… SLAAAY

I’m going to sing this song for you now… This is for all my warriors.

She then went on to sing the “Warrior,” a song about strength, recovery and moving forward. Here are some select lyrics from the song:

This is a story that I’ve never told

I gotta get this off my chest to let it go

    Now I’m a warrior

    Now I’ve Got thicker skin

    I’m a warrior

I’m stronger than I’ve ever been.

It’s increasingly difficult to be cynical and funny about this Bruce Jenner thing. It really was a great way for the world at large to be exposed to that kind of a life, and coming from a former poster child for American masculinity, we really couldn’t have asked for more.

Even if he looks like a receptionist at Curves, from last Friday on you’ll never look at a transgendered person again without feeling how much self-realization, pain and courage goes into being who they are, getting up every morning and facing another day with their controversial identity.
