  • Motion capture is not a new thing to gaming, but this time it’s completely different.

    Typically when using motion capture for a game the actors are shot prior or during the games creation and the characters are modeled around what was previously captured.

    However for the game “Hellblade,” high resolution scans were created in advance from multiple photos and some motion capture done prior. The character model existed before the actor “shot” any of the scenes, which gave the company the ability to shoot scenes in the game and in real time. This captures the actor’s full performance from the top of their head to the bottom of their feet. Every expression captured exactly as they happen.

    For gaming, this is unprecedented. It makes the performance more believable and even without knowing the game, more heart wrenching to watch.
