A story is told on the panel — a story involving the great actor John C. Reilly — who said that the indieness of a movie can often be felt in the energy on set. Reilly claims he’s been on films with a massive budget that, due to the vibe on set, felt like a small intimate movie — and he’s been on movies with a budget of a hundred thousand dollars that felt like a massive lockstep organized feature. Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell discuss their movie — about a space prospecting plan that goes awry — and its long road to becoming a feature length film. Originally The Prospect was a short film, which also aired at SXSW, and with the help of the Duplass brothers, made its way to being a feature. The directors talk about the incredible influence of the Duplass brothers, and discuss how important it is to just make movies, because whatever you thought you would be as a filmmaker could be completely different from the kind of filmmaker you were meant to become. Amazing stuff.
