Jerry Robinson, Creator of the Joker, Passes Away

  • Who would Batman be without The Joker, Two-Face and Robin? Probably just a rich guy in a leather suit … who dates a woman in a leather cat suit. Weird, not super. So you can feel free to credit Jerry Robinson with making Batman the iconic Dark Knight he is today.

    “Everyone who loves comics owes Jerry a debt of gratitude,” Jim Lee (Co-Publisher of DC Comics) said in a statement earlier today after the news of Jerry’s passing hit the press. News of his death came early this morning with reports that his passing came last night peacefully in his sleep after spending 89 years on this earth.

  • Robinson got his start in comics as an inker and letterer back in 1939, and spent the better part of his career creating some of the most memorable characters in the history of comic books. Last year the Los Angeles Times caught up with Jerry for one of this final interviews,
