Hailey Bieber remains the topic of conversation after several of her social media posts raised eyebrows about alleged mean girl behavior. After clips of her speaking poorly of Taylor Swift emerged, Selena Gomez, who was previously in a relationship with Hailey Bieber’s now husband Justin Bieber several years ago, appeared to finally speak out after years of media speculation surrounding alleged disagreements between the two. Gomez voiced support for Swift, who she has been friends with since her early years in the music industry.
This all came after Gomez posted a lighthearted video about over laminating her eyebrows–only for Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner to post screenshots of a FaceTime call between the two of them zooming in on their own eyebrows. The internet quickly denounced the post as shade.
Amid all of the media attention surrounding Bieber and Gomez’ social media interactions, some TikTok users have taken to commenting Rare Beauty (Selena Gomez’ cosmetics brand) favorites on Bieber’s videos. Bieber recently launched her own skincare line, Rhode Beauty. A TikTok creator named Quinn Geordie tried out Bieber’s new products–and immediately broke out in an allergic reaction.
Cosmetics companies labeling allergens remains relatively unregulated. The FDA currently requires that foods with common allergens (including nuts, dairy, and shellfish) need to be directly labeled, but the same does not yet apply to cosmetics. Because of this legal loophole, Rhode Beauty technically is not required to list allergens on their labels. Geordie also shared on her TikTok story that Rhode is allegedly deleting negative comments about the allergens in their products on their TikTok page.

Many of the comments on Geordie’s video read “Rare beauty would never.” In the months leading up to Geordie’s viral video, countless other TikTok users also experienced strange reactions to Rhode Beauty products as well. Some skincare experts on the platform brushed it off as basic irritation from trying too many new products at once. The rumors were dropped until Geordie exposed the products for containing a nut oil that triggers reactions in anyone with tree nut allergies or sensitivities.

Bieber previously attracted viral attention for her “no-makeup makeup” tutorials on TikTok, with many praising her radiant complexion. This positive skincare attention gave way to Bieber founding Rhode Beauty.

Rhode Beauty’s official TikTok account often features testimonials from customers who have found success with the products. On a recent post featuring influencer Angela Y. Park speaking about her skincare journey, commenters begged to differ about Rhode’s products. Rhode finally responded to a few commenters, inviting them to email the company regarding their experience.

Hailey Bieber is yet to address this latest controversy publicly, and Rhode Beauty is yet to issue an official statement.
