Olivia Rodrigo Tattoo Lyric Mistake on Woman’s Wrist Goes Viral On Social Media

/

Summary:

  • Grace Flemming got a tattoo of Olivia Rodrigo’s song lyrics, but a mistake left out the word “fly” from “butterfly wings.”

  • The hilarious error went viral on TikTok, garnering over 800,000 views and catching the attention of Olivia Rodrigo herself.

  • Despite the mistake, Flemming finds humor in the situation and hopes Rodrigo will see the tattoo when she attends her concert.

Grace Flemming just knew she wanted a tattoo of an Olivia Rodrigo song on herself, but it looks like there was a bit mistake made.

The tattoo, made with the song’s bride, has the lyrics originally stating “address the letters to the holes in my butterfly wings”

The lyrics sunk with Flemming for quite some years, and later down the line she made an appointment to get the ink.

Yet, in April of 2024, the 20-year-old had the words inked on her left wrist, the lyrics took a turn.

The design, complete with a quote in Rodrigo’s handwriting and added butterflies, had a glaring mistake after the hour-long appointment.

Looking at her boyfriend once she got home, Flemming told PEOPLE about the situation she described to her boyfriend, where he asked “Did you take out the fly?”

Initially, Flemming thought her partner was joking until she herself looked in the mirror and saw the word “butterfly” was indeed omitted without the “fly.”

“I was just so shocked!” says Flemming, who also has four other tattoos. “How did I not notice that?”

Looking back, she admits she laughed for a moment and thought it was one hilarious mistake.

From there, she called her friends and family about the mistake and asked if they indeed noticed if something was off.

She remarks how, “the laughs and smiles they let out were priceless.”

Flemming took the tatoo to TikTok where the video garnered over 800,000 views.

She never expected it to pick up as much traction as it did, but she really did hope that Rodrigo would see the clip.

“I have been a fan of Olivia since 2015! I LOVED American Girl dolls, and Olivia starred in an American Girl doll movie about the doll named Grace. And ever since then, I’ve followed her in her journey,” she says.

“She is such an inspiration to me and I admire her so much. I hope one day she’ll see this tattoo and laugh about it.”

Flemming is off to see Rodrigo in concert in the future and hopefully will have the singer take note of her tattoo.

“It’s so funny, maybe I’ll keep it!” she says. “It’s a fun story to tell. I think I learned to always double-check your tattoo stencil. Or you might end up with some butter wings.”
