A video of a CVS shopper allegedly using a ChapStick in the store and then returning it to the shelf has gone viral, accumulating over 256,000 views on TikTok.
In the widely shared clip, TikTok user Zebedee (@Zebedee679) recounts his experience and captures footage of the incident. “Check this out, I’m at CVS and this girl went in the CapSticks, put the ChapStick on her lips, and then put it back on the box,” Zebedee narrates. “There go the box right,” he adds, showing the ChapStick box on the shelf.
The video then cuts to a shot of the pharmacy line, where other customers are waiting. Zebedee zooms in on a woman in a floral dress, saying, “Come on man, you opened a ChapStick, put it on your lips, and put it back on the damn shelf: That’s sick.”
Following the incident, Zebedee informed a CVS employee about the alleged misuse of the product. He then decided to address the situation himself. Zebedee approached the woman with the box of lip balm, which had been confiscated by a store worker, and placed it on the counter in front of a cashier who was assisting the woman and her companion. “They might want to pay for this,” Zebedee said. “She opened it. She put the ChapStick on her lips, then she put it back in the box and put it on the shelf.”
He then described the woman’s actions as “sick” before walking away.

In the comments section of the video, many viewers praised Zebedee for his decision to confront the situation. “Bro, believe it or not,” wrote user Razerockrazerock, “What you did right there took a lot of courage and it’s a blessing to know that there are still good people in this world. Thank you and God Bless.”

User Erika also expressed appreciation: “Thank you for speaking up!”
Others used the video as a cautionary tale about purchasing ChapSticks and similar items from boxes. “Ok noted!” wrote one user. “Don’t buy chapsticks in boxes…. Only plastic wrapped.”
This incident is part of a broader trend where TikTok users have spotlighted problematic shopper behavior. In previous cases, content creators have called out individuals for taking unattended shopping carts full of groceries and for refilling bottles of laundry detergent from other containers and then returning the emptied ones to the shelf.
The question of whether trying an item in a store and then returning it to the shelf constitutes a problem has prompted discussions on various message boards. Concerns often revolve around whether such actions are illegal or simply unethical.
