After two rain delays halted the championship game of the French Open yesterday in Paris, Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic this morning on the clay courts at Roland Garros in a 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 game. Spain’s Nadal is the first tennis player to win seven French Open titles in the men’s singles match.
Vying for this championship title provided Serbia’s Djokovic with the chance to be the first man since 1969 to hold all four majors — Wimbledon, U.S. Open, Australian Open, French Open. Djokovic already had the first three under his belt (having even beat Nadal at Wimbledon) but he couldn’t cinch the deal in Paris.
Twitter took to celebrating Rafa’s victory, sending “7th French Open” and #HIS7ORY trending Worldwide.
