After shutting down Maria Sharapova in the Olympic gold medal tennis match on Sunday with a score of  6-0, 6-1, Serena Williams took her time to soak in Olympic glory by jumping into a brief but controversial crip walk, a dance move commonly associated with gang members from her hometown of Compton.
There was definitely cause for celebration, as Williams became only the second woman to complete a career Golden Grand Slam, taking home Olympic Gold after having won the Grand Slam (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open).
Still, many were perturbed by her post-game display, such as Jason Whitlock of MSN Fox Sports, who wrote:
Serena deserved to be criticized and she should’ve immediately apologized. Wimbledon isn’t the place to break out a dance popularized by California Crip gang members. She knows it. That’s why she got embarrassed when asked by reporters to reveal the name of the dance.
