Adam Nimoy, son of Leonard Nimoy who passed away just over a month ago, has announced a documentary about the life of his father’s iconic Star Trek character Spock. The documentary is titled For the Love of Spock.
The doc is set to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek next year. The very first episode aired September 8, 1966. In a nod to Star Trek’s continued success and cultural relevance, Zachary Quinto, who played Spock in the recent blockbuster movies, will narrate.
Speaking with Variety, Adam Nimoy said, “This will be a tribute to my dad and Spock.” His father, who wrote two autobiographies — I Am Not Spock and I Am Spock — had a contentious relationship with his fame. As the titles of his books suggest, it took the elder Nimoy years to embrace the particular kind of fame he received from Star Trek.
Leonard Nimoy’s death at the age of 83 prompted a flood of well-wishing and reminiscing from Star Trek fans and celebrities.
Adam Nimoy told Variety that he had begun planning this documentary before his father’s death. Even after his father was diagnosed with chronic respiratory disease, the two Nimoys were working on the project as recently as two days before Leonard Nimoy died.
Adam Nimoy also confirmed that Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner, will play a part in the documentary. Expect to see For the Love of Spock out next year.
