Conor McGregor Loses It on UFC Bus to Avenge His Friend

  • Conor McGregor sure knows how to get attention for a UFC event he’s not even participating in.

Fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov was scheduled to be part of the main card at Saturday’s UFC 223 event at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. He was originally going to fight Tony Ferguson, but he had to back out a week ago due to a knee injury. Ferguson was replaced with Featherweight Champion Max Holloway, but he was unable to make the 155 lb. limit on such short notice, and was declared “medically unfit” to compete.

While all this drama is going on, Nurmagomedov got into an altercation with featherweight Artem Lobov, who’s part of McGregor’s team. Nurmagomedov slapped Lobov during this confrontation, and this may be what set off Lobov’s friend, McGregor.

So, Nurmagomedov and a bunch of other fighters were on this bus when McGregor showed — again, at the end of media sessions for an event he is not participating in — to throw a big, heavy dolly through a window.

Due to this incident, more fighters have been pulled from Saturday’s card. Fighter Michael Chiesa was injured by shattered glass and received treatment at a hospital for facial lacerations, and flyweight Ray Borg reportedly sustained multiple corneal abrasions.

  • Artem Lobov was also pulled from the fight for participating in the melee outside the bus.

According to Dana White, president of the UFC, when McGregor heard about the confrontation between Lobov and Nurmagomedov, he personally gathered friends in Ireland and they all flew to New York.

  • White did not mince words when talking about McGregor and the incident, and he completely denied that the UFC would have staged this as a publicity stunt. He also said he has a good relationship with McGregor, but that their conversation after the attack was not pleasant.

McGregor ultimately turned himself into police and was charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of felony criminal mischief. Another member of McGregor’s posse, Cian Cowley, was also charged with assault and criminal mischief.

McGregor hasn’t participated in a UFC fight since late 2016 when he defeated Eddie Alvarez by second-round TKO to become the UFC Lightweight Champion. He fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in August 2017 in his first professional boxing match but was TKO’d in the tenth round.

Dana White wouldn’t comment on whether this would prevent McGregor from one day returning to fight in the UFC.

Nurmagomedov hasn’t tweeted since the incident, but he did retweet fighter Daniel Cormier, who wrote —
