“It’s been a joy and so exciting and so fulfilling and rewarding, and I feel like it’s always so nice to just put something out,” Rae told PEOPLE in a recent interview. She was speaking about her debut EP during a promotion for Nerds’ first-ever Super Bowl commercial.

Rae’s foray into music began with her single “Obsessed,” which dropped in 2021. However, after that initial release, the artist took a brief hiatus from the music scene. The following year, several of her demo tracks leaked online, creating a buzz among fans and music enthusiasts.

“I still have no idea how that happened, but everything happens for a reason,” Rae said regarding the leaks. “After the songs surfaced online, unbeknownst to me, I was like, ‘Oh, I wish there was a way that I could have these out.'”

The leaked demos, including tracks such as “I Got It Bad” and “2 Die 4,” quickly gained traction online. These early versions even made their way into DJ sets at nightclubs, generating significant excitement among listeners.

In August 2023, Rae officially released her EP, which included the leaked tracks “I Got It Bad” and “2 Die 4,” as well as the newly revealed “Nothing On (But the Radio)” and “It Could’ve Been U.” Both of these additional tracks had also previously leaked online.

“I love those songs so much. They’re such a huge part of my life,” Rae said about the EP. “It’s always so exciting to see something come to fruition that you worked hard on.”

One track that particularly excited fans was “Nothing On (But the Radio).” This song had been a point of interest for years, with demo versions recorded by Lady Gaga leaking more than a decade ago but never officially released.

Rae expressed her admiration for Lady Gaga, stating, “I’m obviously the biggest Lady Gaga fan. She’s always been such a pioneer for pop and experimenting. I would love to know if she heard it. It’s such a different version than hers, so it would be interesting [to know] what she thinks.”

Looking ahead, Rae is keeping details about her future music releases under wraps. “I’m always in the studio, so we’ll see what happens,” she teased. Fans can look forward to live performances of the tracks from the “AR” EP, as Rae is eager to bring the songs to life on stage.
