The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards already have big shoes to fill. Last year, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift announced the release date of her now hit pop album “Midnights,” upon her 2022 triple wins for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) The Short Film.”

Now, fans already predict that Swift might make an appearance at the awards, which will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The acclaimed singer-songwriter was recently spotted leaving Electric Lady Studios in New York City, the city in which she has been spending her free time between her bustling international “Eras Tour” dates.

Swift is currently embarking on her ambitious “The Eras Tour”, which encompasses material from all ten of her studio albums. The three-hour set is complete with costume and set changes designed to match each album “era.” This summer, Swift announced that “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” will be the next of her first six original masters to be re-recorded.

In June 2019, Scooter Braun famously purchased Swift’s first six original studio album masters, which were created from when Swift was a teenager through her mid-20s. The masters were acquired through Ithaca Holdings for $330 million, after Braun bought Swift’s longtime record label, Big Machine Records. This resulted in an abrupt shift for Swift to Republic Records. The masters were acquired without Swift’s consent.

Two months later, Swift dropped her seventh studio album, “Lover”, marking the first album she ever truly owned. After the release of “Lover”, Swift announced plans to re-record each of her first six studio albums, and add additional “vault” songs to each. The vault songs refer to tracks Swift wrote at the time of each album’s release, but ultimately did not release until the present day. “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” will be released on October 27.

Social Media Theories

Due to Swift’s habit of mid-award show announcements, numerous Swifties already sense that the singer-songwriter will announce “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” at the awards show. This year’s ceremony is to be hosted by rapper Nicki Minaj, and some suspect the pair have a collaboration on the allegedly upcoming album.

Many hope that the rumors are true, given that both artists have praised each others work in the past. Swift has notably featured a number of artists on the re-recorded albums thus far, ranging from Phoebe Bridgers to Paramore and Fall Out Boy.

Elsewhere, some suspect that Swift’s outfit tonight (if she attends) will tell the audience everything they need to know. The singer is known to leave “Easter Eggs” on her clothing choices to hint about what’s next musically. Last year, her glittering ensemble later made perfect sense upon the release of “Bejeweled.”

It remains unclear if Swift will attend the awards ceremony tonight. You can find the full MTV Video Music Awards nominations list here.
