Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, called out a man for harassing her on the steps of the Capitol. The U.S. representative was called a “big-booty Latina” repeatedly by Alex Stein, a far-right activist. In the video, he continues to refer to her as that, while also saying she “wants to kill babies” and looks “sexy.” She then walks over to him and jokes, “why don’t we do a selfie?” and poses for the camera.

Later, she reposted the video herself and explained what happened, writing “It’s just a bummer to work in an institution that openly allowed this, but talking about it only invites more. Just really sad.” She later writes she was walking over to “deck him because if no one will protect us then I’ll do it myself but I needed to catch a vote more than a case today.”

Insider reached out to Stein, who said he would love to date AOC and finds her “absolutely beautiful.” She had posted a photo of the man so people could avoid him, as he had no problem continuing to say obscene things to AOC when she was clearly uncomfortable, but once she noticed it was someone people recognized, she deleted it.

Some people claimed she wanted to date him, but as many people pointed out, “If you think this kind of treatment makes a woman want to date someone, you clearly do not get many dates.” Other people stated she posed for a selfie but was probably only doing so to try to gain control of the situation. Many pointed out that although she is a public figure, it does not make it okay to harass her. “Funny how “both sides” only seems to be evoked in one direction,” AOC wrote on Twitter, responding to the increased protection for members of SCOTUS but not for her or other people at risk of being harassed in the capitol.
