Ariana Grande may have a surprise for her fans in the near future—new music. The pop superstar, who is currently nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 2025 Oscars for her role in Wicked, teased that she might be releasing new material soon.
In an interview with Variety on the red carpet of the 97th annual Academy Awards on March 2, Grande, 31, hinted at the possibility of a new project following the deluxe edition of her 2024 album Eternal Sunshine. When asked about the album’s upcoming release, the Grammy-winning artist kept her cards close to her chest but dropped a few hints.
“The next step is… It means it must come out,” Grande said, suggesting that the deluxe edition of Eternal Sunshine is close to seeing the light of day. However, she was reluctant to provide a specific release date, leaving her fans to continue speculating.
Grande, known for her wit and humor, joked about her hazy memory, referencing the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In the movie, a fictional clinic, the Brighter Days Memory Erasure Clinic, erases painful memories. Grande quipped, “They did the Brighter Days Memory Erasure treatment to me, so I’m having trouble remembering the details. They’re foggy, because at the Brighter Days Clinic, they do the Memory Erasure.”
She continued with her playful teasing, adding, “I’ll have to go back to the clinic and see if they can restore my memory,” keeping fans guessing about what exactly is in store for them.
When asked whether the music would be released “soon,” Grande cleverly avoided using the term. “You have to learn the language of my fans because soon means 10 days or less. I’m not allowed to use that word at this moment,” she told Variety’s Marc Malkin.
Malkin pressed her further, asking if it meant the release would not happen in less than 10 days. Grande responded, “I’m not going to use that word today. I’ll say that.” With her signature sense of humor, she concluded the conversation with, “Just keep your eyes peeled… That’s all I’m saying.”

Grande’s comments about new music come less than four months after she revealed a shift in her career focus during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast in November 2024. At that time, she shared her decision to shift from pop music to musical theater, largely influenced by her role as Glinda, the Good Witch, in Wicked on Broadway.
“I’m gonna say something so scary—it’s gonna scare the absolute s— out of my fans and everyone,” Grande admitted. “But I love them, and they’ll deal, and we’ll be here forever. I’m always going to make music, I’m always going to go on stage, I’m always going to do pop stuff, I pinky promise. But I don’t think doing it at the rate I’ve been doing it for the past 10 years is where I see the next 10 years.”
For Grande, the move to Broadway represents a return to her theater roots, which began in her childhood. She starred in the musical 13: The Musical as a young girl, which ignited her love for musical theater. Reflecting on the transition, Grande explained, “Reconnecting with this part of myself who started in musical theater, and who loves comedy, and it heals me to do that.”
She added that she is excited about exploring new roles and genres on stage, saying, “Whatever makes sense, or whatever roles we see fit, or where I could really do a good job or honor the material, I would really love to. I think it’s a lot better for me. I’m getting emotional.”
Despite her desire to focus on musical theater, Grande has not completely ruled out her pop music career. Fans will likely be pleased to know that she remains committed to making music and performing on stage, though it seems she plans to do so at a more measured pace moving forward.
Grande’s upcoming album release and continued work in musical theater signal an exciting time for the multi-talented star. As her focus shifts toward Broadway, her fans can look forward to both new music and more captivating performances in the years to come.
