Armie Hammer marked his 38th birthday with a unique gift—a vasectomy, provided by none other than his mother, Dru Hammer. The actor shared the unusual birthday experience in a recent episode of The Armie HammerTime Podcast, where he was joined by his mom for a candid conversation.
In the second part of their mother-son interview, Dru revealed how the idea for the birthday present came about. “Let’s talk about what I gave you for your birthday this year,” she said, before recounting the phone call she had with her son leading up to his birthday. “I call Armie, and I go, ‘Armie, what would you like for your birthday this year?’ And he goes, ‘I don’t know, maybe money. Whatever.’ And I was like, ‘I believe I’m going to give you a vasectomy.'”
Armie, who shares two children—daughter Harper, 9, and son Ford, 7—with his ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers, explained his decision to go through with the procedure. “I go to a doctor’s office and I go, ‘I’m here to schedule a vasectomy,'” he said. Hammer, who was initially unsure about the procedure, recalled the consultation where the doctor asked if he was certain about his decision.
“He was like, ‘Are you sure you wanna do this?’ I’m like, ‘I have two beautiful kids. I don’t want any more kids. I’m good to go,’” Hammer explained. “They try to talk you out of it. I’m like, ‘You’re not going to talk me out of it. I’m done. I’m good.’” Hammer’s decision was final, and he felt confident that he had made the right choice for his family.
However, the process took an awkward turn when Hammer was asked about payment for the procedure. When the receptionist asked whether he would be paying through insurance or credit card, the actor responded, “My mother’s going to be calling you and she’s going to be paying for it.”
The receptionist, seemingly taken aback by the response, asked for clarification. “She was looking down and she [looked up] and goes, ‘What?’ And I go, ‘Yes, my mother gave me this as a birthday present,’” Hammer recalled, laughing at the absurdity of the situation. “It just was one of those things like you could tell she was hearing something and like, ‘I’ve never heard — what are you talking about?’”
Despite the awkwardness, Dru Hammer took the situation in stride. “Yeah, I’m not stupid!” she quipped, adding a humorous note to the story.

For Armie Hammer, the decision to undergo a vasectomy was rooted in his desire to avoid having more children. “I’m done,” he said. “I’m good.” With two kids already, Hammer felt that expanding his family further was not in the cards. His frankness about the procedure and the involvement of his mother in the process have sparked attention online, as it’s not every day that a birthday gift involves a medical procedure.
The conversation also touched on Hammer’s approach to parenting. He emphasized that he would have open discussions with his children about his past controversies, including the social media scandals and personal allegations that have surrounded him in recent years. “I’ll have conversations with my kids when it’s time,” he said. “When they get older, we’ll talk about it.”
Hammer, whose career has been on a hiatus due to the controversy surrounding his personal life, has taken steps to move forward, and his recent podcast appearance marks a shift toward regaining control of his narrative. In addition to discussing personal milestones, Hammer has been vocal about his efforts to reconnect with his children and navigate life after a tumultuous period.
