Backline, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting mental health within the music industry, officially launched its We Got You! campaign today. The new initiative is designed to provide critical mental health resources for musicians, touring professionals, venue staff, and their families. The campaign has already garnered significant support from industry figures, including Chappell Roan, Noah Kahan, and Charli XCX, who have committed donations to help fund the cause.
Founded in 2019, Backline has been at the forefront of connecting those working within the music industry to essential mental health services, addressing the unique and often overlooked challenges faced by artists and others in the industry. The organization works with musicians, crew members, and their families to offer personalized care, providing access to mental health professionals who understand the pressures of the music world.
The We Got You! campaign builds on Backline’s ongoing mission, with the goal of raising funds and awareness to create a safer, more sustainable industry. Roan, who was recently named Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammy Awards, played a key role in the campaign’s launch, following a high-profile call for greater industry support of artists’ well-being. During her acceptance speech, Roan urged record labels to provide healthcare coverage for their artists, highlighting the need for systemic change within the industry.
In response to Roan’s plea, former A&R executive Jeff Rabhan criticized her remarks, questioning her understanding of the issue. In an op-ed, Rabhan suggested that Roan should demonstrate her commitment to the cause by putting her own money toward the effort. Roan took up the challenge and partnered with Backline, committing $25,000 to support artists’ mental health.
Roan’s commitment inspired other musicians to join the effort. Singer-songwriter Noah Kahan, a longtime mental health advocate and supporter of Backline, pledged his own $25,000 contribution to the cause. Shortly after, Charli XCX, a recently awarded Grammy winner, followed suit, matching the donations with her own $25,000 pledge. The combined efforts of these artists, alongside the contributions from other fans and industry professionals, have helped launch the campaign with significant momentum.
Backline’s community manager, Terra Lopez, expressed immense gratitude for the contributions, highlighting the collective effort to create a more supportive music industry. “The We Got You! campaign is a powerful step in prioritizing mental health and well-being for those who make the music we all love,” Lopez said. “Thank you to Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, and Noah Kahan for your advocacy and action to create a more supportive industry. Together, we are showing artists they are seen, heard, and cared for.”
Backline’s efforts extend far beyond the campaign, with the nonprofit having already helped thousands of music industry professionals access mental health care. Through one-on-one case management, Backline offers personalized care plans that include referrals to licensed mental health professionals with expertise in the music industry. Additionally, the organization helps individuals access financial aid and substance use treatment. To date, Backline has created over 1,800 custom care plans for people across thousands of bands, festivals, and venues.

The impact of Backline’s services extends beyond individual care, creating a ripple effect throughout the music community. By supporting one professional, the organization strengthens entire teams, tours, families, and productions, helping the music industry as a whole function more smoothly and with greater well-being.
While Backline’s work has already made significant strides, the nonprofit is just getting started. As the We Got You! campaign gains traction, Backline hopes to further the conversation around mental health in the music industry and continue advocating for lasting change.
For those looking to contribute to the cause, Backline invites fans and industry professionals to follow the campaign’s progress and join the movement. “Continue the conversation and action towards improving mental health across the music industry by keeping up with Backline here and join the We Got You! movement here,” the organization urged in a statement.
With the support of Roan, Kahan, Charli XCX, and many others, the We Got You! campaign aims to create a long-lasting impact that prioritizes the mental health of those who shape the music world, ensuring that they are cared for and supported as they navigate the challenges of their profession.
