Ariana Grande announced her eighth studio album, “petal,” on Tuesday, with the project set for release July 31 via Republic Records.
The pop star revealed the news on Instagram, sharing a black-and-white portrait that doubles as the album’s cover art. The image shows Grande with her hair down in loose brunette waves, smiling softly — a deliberate departure from the high-concept visuals of past eras like “Sweetener” and “Eternal Sunshine.”
“petal” is co-written and executive produced by Grande and longtime collaborator Ilya Salmanzadeh, the Swedish-Persian producer known professionally as ILYA. Salmanzadeh has worked with Grande since her 2014 hit “Problem” and produced much of her 2024 album “Eternal Sunshine.”
In a press release, Grande described the project as “something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.” She first hinted at the theme on April 18 in a video posted from the studio.
According to the album’s Spotify countdown page, “petal” will feature 12 tracks. Pre-orders are live across digital and physical formats, including LP, CD and cassette.
The release arrives during Grande’s Eternal Sunshine Tour, which kicks off June 6 in Oakland, California, and runs through Sept. 1 in London. “Eternal Sunshine” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced two Hot 100 chart-toppers, “yes, and?” and “we can’t be friends (wait for your love).”
