Behind Jennifer Lopez’s New Album and Film ‘This is Me… Now’

Jennifer Lopez announced her plans to release This is Me… Now which serves as a sequel to her 2002 album This is Me… Then.

The upcoming project marks her first studio album in ten years since A.K.A. was released in 2014.

In addition to the songs about her love life and time in the spotlight, the singer is releasing an accompanying documentary titled This is Me… Now: The Film, which will serve as a ‘musical and visual reimagining of her publicly scrutinized love life,” according to the release.

According to a press release, the upcoming album serves as a sister album to This is Me…Then, “completing a 20-year journey.” It’s also described as the musician’s “most honest and personal” LP yet.

Meanwhile, the film will serve as a “musical and visual reimagining of her publicly scrutinized love life,” according to the release. “The film is ultimately a heartfelt ode to JL’s journey of self-healing and everlasting belief in fairytale endings,” the release continues. “Audiences will be captivated and leave hopeful that true love can be more than a dream.”

Lopez previously teased the album in November 2022, when she shared a clip of herself recreating the cover for This Is Me… Then, her 2002 ode to then-boyfriend Ben Affleck.

Lopez shared a 13-song track list form the upcoming album, including one song titled “Dear Ben pt. II” which was a nod to “Dear Ben” from the first album.

In November of 2023, Lopez announced that the first single ‘Can’t Get Enough’ will be released on January 10, 2024.

Following the release of the first single, the album and its accompanying film will be released on Feb. 16, 2024.

The film will be available to stream exclusively on Prime Video “in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide,” per a release.

This Is Me…Now: The Film is directed by Dave Meyers, who has collaborated with a number of artists including Janet Jackson, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and Pink.

Additionally, the film was co-written by Lopez and her husband, Ben Affleck, as well as Matt Walton.

On Nov. 27, Lopez shared a trailer for the upcoming Prime Video film, which features Lopez sitting outside in the rain as she reads a letter and tosses it into a fireplace.

The letter that Lopez threw in the fire was dated Dec. 24, 2002, and signed “B.” It reads, “Life’s tough but you’re sweet. Thanks for the gift. Hope you like the flowers. You told me you could never have enough. I believe you.”

The 37-second clip also features various shots of Lopez dancing and singing, including one of her walking down the aisle and another of her in a wedding dress featuring risqué heart cutouts.
