Ben Platt and Noah Galvin, who both starred in the lead role of Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway, are now officially married. The couple tied the knot on Sunday, Sept. 1, at Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn, as reported by Vogue. Their wedding festivities began with a Shabbat welcome dinner at the Angel Orensanz Foundation on the Lower East Side on Friday night.

“We couldn’t get married until Sunday because some of Ben’s family are observant Jews and Shabbat needed to be observed,” Galvin explained to Vogue. To keep the celebration going, the couple hosted a casual bar night with games and Lombardi’s pizza at Cellar Dog in the West Village on Saturday.

On Sunday, the wedding ceremony was officiated by Platt’s longtime Rabbi, David Wolpe. “Our greatest hope was to give everyone a joyful, low-stress weekend full of warmth and a window into our relationship and the life that we are building,” Platt told Vogue. “And we wanted the dancing to go off. We feel that all missions were accomplished!”

The ceremony featured a heartfelt moment when both of their mothers performed a duet of a classic Jewish wedding song. The couple then performed the traditional Jewish wedding custom of stepping on glasses, which Galvin humorously noted, “And they broke, thank God!”

Following the ceremony, guests continued the celebration at Sunny’s bar for the afterparty, which included a menu of Shake Shack and a musical theater singalong inspired by Marie’s Crisis Café. Platt described the afterparty as an emotional experience. “We were overwhelmed with love, sweaty, and sobbing most of the time. We took our coats off halfway through—we were emotionally overheated,” he said.

Galvin later proposed to Platt in May 2023, using their dog George as part of the surprise. Platt posted an Instagram photo of George holding a red rose surrounded by blue rose petals, with the caption, “I said yes.” He also showcased the sapphire engagement ring Galvin used for the proposal, writing, “He proposed back 💙.”

According to Vogue, Platt and Galvin first met in the fall of 2014 when Galvin invited Platt to appear on a web series he was working on with mutual friends. Their friendship deepened over time, with Galvin eventually replacing Platt as the lead in Dear Evan Hansen in November 2017. The pair’s relationship turned romantic during the COVID-19 pandemic, as they began living together in Platt’s childhood home and shared their #QuaranTunes dance parties on Instagram.

Platt reflected on their relationship during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, noting that the pandemic accelerated their relationship from “zero to 60.” He mentioned that living together during quarantine was a “beautiful time,” despite the unusual circumstances.

In May 2020, Galvin publicly confirmed their relationship during an episode of the Little Known Facts with Ilana Levine podcast. By the end of that year, they had made their relationship Instagram official. The couple has since been seen together at numerous red carpet events and frequently shares their affection for each other on social media.

In July 2022, Platt opened up to PEOPLE about his relationship with Galvin, describing him as a grounding presence. “He really is a level-out for me. I tend to operate in a very high frequency, and he does not, in a really beautiful way,” Platt said. “So I feel very lucky to have him as a grounding presence.”

Ben Platt and Noah Galvin’s wedding and relationship journey have been widely celebrated by fans and peers alike, marking a joyful chapter in both of their lives.
