Over 150 content creators, influencers, and policymakers convened at the rooftop lounge of NeueHouse Hollywood on Monday for the “Creators & Changemakers Blueprint Lounge.” The event aimed to empower creators to inspire civic engagement and boost voter turnout as the 2024 election approaches.
Sponsored by Swing Left, a non-profit organization focused on aiding Democratic candidates in critical elections, the gathering encouraged attendees to take action and volunteer in the final weeks of the election cycle.
The evening featured a panel discussion moderated by creator economy executive Loren Piretra. Panelists included U.S. Representative Jimmy Gomez (D-CA), La’Ron Hines, a creator and singer with over 10 million followers; Sidney Raz, a creator and author with more than 6 million followers; and Annie Gonzalez, actress from “Gentefied” and activist.
The panelists explored the role of creators in stimulating discussions about political and social issues, the potential impact of a TikTok ban, and the importance of mobilizing Latinx and Black voters.
“Los Angeles is the epicenter of the creator economy, and it is imperative that creators leverage their influence to encourage young people to vote in this election,” said Rep. Gomez, who represents California’s 34th congressional district, encompassing diverse neighborhoods like Downtown Los Angeles and Koreatown. He noted that his district includes numerous SAG-AFTRA and WGA union members, along with many digital creators.
“As creators, influencers, and leaders, we have a unique opportunity to inspire civic engagement, mobilize our communities, and advocate for a better future,” said Jade Bernad, CEO of GOOD PPL INC., the social impact agency that produced the event. “We are grateful for the partnership with Swing Left and all their efforts to ensure every voice is heard at the ballot box.”
The event underscored the growing recognition of digital creators as vital voices in the political landscape. As the 2024 election approaches, their ability to engage younger audiences and address pressing social issues is increasingly seen as crucial to mobilizing voters.
