A woman named Shelly Auguste filed a police report with the LAPD regarding songwriter and DJ Diplo allegedly distributing revenge pornography of her. The LAPD has given the report to LA County’s District Attorney, “where it is currently under review,” as reported by Pitchfork. Auguste accused Diplo of distributing nude photos and videos of her without her consent. She is one of several women to accuse the DJ of spreading revenge porn, of which allegations first arose in 2021. Diplo’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, previously stated “She has been peddling her lies around the country in a desperate attempt to harm Wes and those he loves, but she will not succeed.”

The most recent report comes amid Auguste additionally suing Diplo for sexual battery, gender violence, intentional intrusion into private affairs, battery, assault, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and fraud, and violation of the Ralph Civil Rights Act and violation of the Tom Bane Civil Rights Act. Diplo is suing Auguste for for stalking, trespassing, and distributing private materials. The trial is currently set for April 2024, and Auguste was granted a restraining order against him in the meantime.

Prior to Auguste’s allegations of revenge porn, she alleges that Diplo first reached out to her via social media when she was 17 years old and he was 35 years old in 2014. Diplo’s legal team claimed that he instead met her in 2018, and placed their first intimate encounter in 2019 when she was 22 years old. Auguste alleges that the encounter was consensual, but that Diplo recorded it on his cell phone without her consent. Months later, Auguste’s lawsuit claims that they had another intimate encounter that quickly turned non consensual while she was intoxicated. The suit indicates that she was “highly intoxicated, barely able to walk or see straight.”

The lawsuit further alleges that Diplo gave Auguste an STI. The complaint alleges that he “appeared to get pleasure from putting down Ms. Auguste,” and that “he knew she was an impressionable and vulnerable young woman as he had groomed her since she was a teenager.” In 2020, she was granted a temporary restraining order against Diplo, while he additionally obtained a restraining order against her.

A second woman filed a similar lawsuit in 2021, but dropped it by the end of the year. Auguste alleges that she was contacted by a number of people online who had obtained nude photos of her that Diplo took. The new revenge porn allegations are what reopened her pursuit of a lawsuit. Following the lawsuit’s publicity, Auguste shared a tweet directly explaining the LAPD’s investigative process on her recent allegations against the DJ, and confirmed that she has a new restraining order against him since the last one in 2020.

Many offered words of support for Auguste amid the lawsuit’s disturbing allegations.
