In a recent viral video circulating TikTok, user @jhordanthemodel, or just Jhordan, explains that when a Door Dash driver sees an order, they can decide whether or not they will choose to deliver it to them. Many things can factor into this, like the size of the order, how far the drive is, or the tip. Tipping Door Dash drivers has been a debate among people, as is regular tipping. This TikTok user then shows several McDonald’s orders waiting to be picked up will probably be neglected by drivers, as they did not tip, and says there is a “whole section.”

This video causes quite the drama on TikTok, as many argued that drivers are not guaranteed or entitled to a tip. However, the original poster of the video notes that nobody is entitled to tip, but also the drivers are not obligated to bring their order.

One person writes “So we feel entitled to a tip before the customer experience the service by the door dasher?”

Jhordan replies in a separate video, which she did often as there were many comments that felt as if drivers should not pick and choose orders based on tips, and notes that she never said that tips were mandatory or that a driver is entitled to a tip, she only noted that a driver does not have to deliver an order, and a person does not have to tip. Still, the original video has over 400 thousand views and almost 20,000 comments, many were still upset with the implications behind the video. One person writes “You get a tip AFTER a service, not in order to perform a service.” Jhordan responds that “That’s how restaurants work. We aren’t waitresses and this isn’t a restaurant. But by all means, tip however you like that’s your right.”

Despite many comments and video responses to Jhordan’s videos that often voiced many’s disagreements, Jhordan did not change her opinion. Tipping has never been mandatory in any situation but is still expected, especially after service that is performed well. Jhordan’s point seemed clear, if someone is not going to tip before, then a driver may fear that they will not receive a tip after and therefore do not want to do a job that might not make them as much money.
