Buckingham Palace has announced that Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have welcomed a baby boy! Meghan Markle, a former American actress turned British royalty, gave birth this morning at 5:26 AM British Summer Time (BST). This is the couple’s first child, and they have yet to pick a name for him. Prince Harry said that they are “still thinking about names. The baby’s a little bit overdue, so we’ve had a little bit of time to think about it, but that’s the next bit.
In an Instagram post, the royal family announced the arrival of the monarchy’s newest addition. “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526hrs this morning. The baby weighs 7lbs 3oz. The Duke of Sussex was present for the birth.”
Next, an official notice of birth went on display in front of Buckingham Palace. According to the royal family, “It is tradition that this goes on display on a ceremonial easel for members of the public to view for approximately 24 hours.”
Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, is staying with the Duke and Duchess at Frogmore Cottage and is “overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild.” A visibly elated Prince Harry gave a statement to reporters this morning.
“Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever possibly imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension. We are both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support from everybody out there, it’s been amazing, so we just wanted to share this with everybody.
Harry went on to express the novelty of the experience, as well as his evident love for his family’s new arrival.
“I haven’t been to many births! This is definitely my first birth. But it was amazing, absolutely, absolutely incredible, and as I said, I’m so incredibly proud of my wife. And as every father and parent would say, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to die for. I’m just over the moon.”
