Actress turned host Jada Pinkett Smith continues to stir controversy surrounding her openness when discussing her marriage to actor Will Smith. Now that her much anticipated memoir “Worthy” has been released, Pinkett Smith has revealed she has previously had relationships with women.

In the memoir, the actress wrote “The truth is that during those early years of exploration in Hollywood, I had a few sexual experiences with women, only to realize that when it comes to sex, I love men,” she continued.

“Still, I cherish the beauty of women inside and out. And I have never stopped being infatuated and in awe of women of all ages, sizes, and colors,” she wrote. “My belief is — women are the most amazing creatures on the planet, and I hold reverence for women through my friendships.” The anecdote was included in a portion of the memoir regarding Pinkett Smith’s firm belief that all women should take the time to “embrace sexuality unapologetically.”

Smith Separationgate

Recently, Pinkett-Smith revealed in an interview with Hoda Kotb for “The Today Show” that herself and her husband have been separated since 2017. The couple first married in 1997. This week, Pinkett Smith revealed that she was “shocked” to hear the actor refer to her as his wife amid his notorious altercation with Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars.

“We haven’t called each other husband and wife in a long time,” she said. “I’m like, ‘What is going on right now?’” The actress turned host and author first explained the details of her separation from the actor in an interview with People.

At the 2022 Oscars, comedian and actor Chris Rock referred to Pinkett Smith as “GI Jane” due to her buzzed hair cut, unaware of her recent alopecia diagnosis. Smith then rose from his seat, slapped Rock, then demanded that he “keep his wife’s name out his f*cking mouth.” The incident polarized viewers and the entertainment industry, and resulted in a 10 year ban on the actor from the Academy of Motion Picture Sciences.
