Actor and musician Jared Leto was seen shockingly scaling the Empire State Building this morning. The daring video clip rapidly found a viral moment on X.

The images of the climb, taken from shocking heights, had many questioning why exactly Leto would take such a leap. Soon after Leto reached the top, he stopped by “the Today Show” to explain his motivation for the climb, and make an announcement for his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars. “It was in celebration of the tour and doing those things that you love to do,” said Leto.

Following the recent release of their album “It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day,” the band will embark on a world tour this March.

The album marks the band’s sixth studio album. The group has been performing together since 1998, and consists of Leto and his brother Shannon Leto. Outside of his music, the former Leto holds a legacy of a number of notable acting performances throughout his multi-decade spanning career, from “Requiem For A Dream” to “Suicide Squad,” “House of Gucci,” and a number of popular films in between. Last year, it was also announced that Leto would produce and star in a biopic on the late designer Karl Lagerfeld.

Social Media Reactions

Prior to the actor’s explanation, X was a buzz with memes and questions regarding the shocking stunt. Many joked that Leto must have fancied himself spiderman to accomplish such a feat.

Elsewhere, others resurfaced other photos of previous urban climbing expeditions the actor and musician has completed.

Some felt that the climb was solely intended for shock value to bring attention to Thirty Seconds To Mars’ upcoming 2024 tour.

Others joke that because the multi-hyphenate is at such a stable point in his career, he has the ability to take random days off for stunts such as these.

In his brief interview outside of the studio of “The Today Show,” he explained his love of climbing and nature further. Leto revealed that he frequently spends time climbing in Yosemite National Park, and had dreamed about scaling the New York City landmark since he was a child. He equated the climb to a celebration of the band’s album and subsequent tour.
