Katy Perry has boldly declared it’s a “Woman’s World” in the lavish music video accompanying the debut single from her upcoming album, “143.” Released on Thursday, the single comes with a cinematic visual where Perry appears as both Rosie the Riveter and a futuristic bionic woman.
In the video, Perry sings, “Fire in her eyes / Feminine divine / She was born to shine,” surrounded by a crew of dancers wielding props symbolic of life “living in a woman’s world”: women’s vitamins, female-branded whiskey, and an array of skincare and wellness tools.
The narrative takes a dramatic turn when Perry’s character is crushed by a massive anchor, only to awaken with bionic legs in a dystopian setting. The video features cameos from internet personalities including Trisha Paytas.
Perry’s upcoming album, her sixth studio release and first since 2020’s “Smile,” is set for release on September 20. The singer’s return to music follows the conclusion of her Play residency in Las Vegas and her tenure as a judge on “American Idol.”
On July 10, Perry unveiled “143” along with its futuristic album artwork. The title “143” is derived from the numerical expression of love used in early 1990s pager messages. Perry explained in a press release that she aimed to create a vibrant, celebratory dance-pop album with love as a central theme.
Teasing the release on TikTok since June, Perry hinted at the empowering themes of “Woman’s World.” The single, predominantly produced by Dr. Luke, who collaborated on Perry’s successful albums like “Teenage Dream” and “Prism,” sparked controversy due to allegations against Dr. Luke by Kesha, his former artist.

“143” is anticipated to feature collaborations with Perry’s longtime collaborators Stargate, Max Martin, and Sarah Hudson, according to Rolling Stone.
Perry’s latest work continues her exploration of pop themes with a focus on empowerment and celebration, setting the stage for her upcoming album’s release and its reception among fans and critics alike.
