Lady Gaga is known for her bold fashion choices, chart-topping hits, and captivating performances, but when it comes to reality television, she isn’t interested.
In a recent appearance on Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test, the Grammy-winning singer was asked whether she would ever consider joining the ranks of The Real Housewives. The 38-year-old was quick to respond with a firm “No,” despite her usual knack for playing with public expectations.
The polygraph examiner asked further about Gaga’s thoughts on reality TV, referencing a tribute to her on The Real Housewives of New York City in 2018. In the show’s season 10 premiere, several of the women dressed up as famous female icons for a Halloween episode. Dorinda Medley recreated Gaga’s unforgettable look from her “Bad Romance” music video, alongside other tributes, including Tinsley Mortimer as Madonna and Sonja Morgan as Lucille Ball.
Despite the homage, Gaga wasn’t swayed. “That would make me feel scared, to like, being on reality TV,” she confessed during the interview. “This makes me feel scared.” The A Star Is Born star went on to explain that the idea of participating in such a high-profile, unscripted setting didn’t appeal to her.
While the pop sensation may not see herself fitting into the reality TV world, she did open up about an earlier TV appearance. In 2008, Gaga made a cameo on The Hills during season 4, episode 5, where she performed at a small party. At the time, she was relatively unknown, wearing a daring full-body leather-like catsuit with gold chains, a red, white, and black scarf wrapped around her blonde locks. It was a moment that showcased her emerging star power before she became an international sensation.
In the Vanity Fair interview, Gaga also reflected on the iconic outfits and moments that defined her public persona, such as the controversial meat dress she wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Despite the press surrounding her daring fashion choice, she was clear in saying that she wouldn’t wear the dress again.

Gaga said her decision to wear the meat dress, which was designed by Franc Fernandez, was a statement about the need to challenge expectations and spark conversation around controversial topics. The performance artist side of Gaga is always pushing boundaries, but she admitted that some moments—like the meat dress—are best left in the past.

Reflecting on her career and her image, Gaga has often shared how her fashion and public persona have allowed her to connect deeply with fans. Her willingness to be herself, no matter the cost, has earned her a dedicated following, though she remains selective about how she presents herself in the public eye.
Meanwhile, Dorinda Medley, known for her role on The Real Housewives of New York City, shared her take on the iconic Lady Gaga-inspired costume she wore for the aforementioned Halloween episode. In an interview with The Daily Dish, Medley revealed that the bubble dress she wore was a DIY creation, crafted with a Spanx garment and plastic balls sewn on by an SNL costume designer. She admitted that by the end of the night, she was practically naked, as the bubbles had fallen off and her attire had become less than practical. Still, she laughed about the experience, explaining, “I was pretty much naked by the end of that scene… Not that I cared.”

In the same interview, Medley reflected on the lasting impact of her homage to Lady Gaga, joking that the bubble dress “lives on forever.” While Medley’s costume was a lighthearted take on the “Born This Way” singer’s famous SNL look, it was clear that her time in the outfit was more about having fun than adhering to perfection. As Medley herself put it, “Between the drinks, the wigs, and the bubbles falling off, I was past worrying about that.”
For Gaga, while her reality TV experience is off the table, her creative expression and dedication to her music and performances continue to leave a lasting mark on pop culture. Whether on stage or in interviews, she remains one of the most influential artists of her generation.
