Grammy winning alternative pop artist Lorde shared a rare glimpse into her friendship with fellow acclaimed musician Taylor Swift.

Lorde shared a screenshot of a text message from Swift from several years ago, reassuring her about the success of her album “Melodrama.” Several tracks from the album, notably “Green Light”, “Liability”, and more have become alt-pop favorites, even sparking contemporary viral TikTok trends.

The pair became fast friends when Lorde first reached mainstream popularity with her hit single “Royals.” Swift has made it a point to befriend other women artists in the music industry after facing scrutiny over her personal life in her early career years. Lorde was a part of Swift’s infamous “squad” in the 2010s, which was full of models, actresses, and musicians, many of whom the singer continues to spend time with.

The Backstory

However, after Swift went into hiding just before her “Reputation” album, the singer laid low on public outings, with Lorde included. The lack of sightings of the pair of friends led some to believe that they had ended their friendship. Additionally, Lorde once criticized Swift’s longtime friend Selena Gomez over her song “Come And Get It”, stating that it was “not feminist.” The statements coupled with the lack of sightings is what had many losing hope for the pair of songstresses.

Today’s confirmation of their friendship was a relief to fans of both artists, who continue to hold out hope for a collaboration between the two in the future.

Others acknowledged that Swift predicted the future about Lorde’s “Melodrama.” Specifically, the track “Green Light” soundtracked a pivotal scene in the cult classic Fox comedy “New Girl.”

Meanwhile, others marveled at Swift’s impactful writing skills even transferring to text messages. One Twitter user joked that she thought the screenshotted message included lyrics from Swift’s “Folklore.”

Swift is yet to comment on the resurfaced text message, but it is clear that there is no lingering melodrama between the the two singer-songwriters.
