Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty Marriage ‘Got Testy’ Following Birth of Their Son

Nicki Minaj opened up admitting that her marriage to Kennth Petty ‘got testy’ following the immediate birth of their son.

The rapper welcomed her baby boy into the world in September of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a recent interview, the queen of rap said that she and her husband navigated their son’s infant stage without any help other than a small set of visits from a grandparent.

“I’m not going to lie, things got testy between us,” she told Vogue in her December 2023 cover, published Thursday. “Because of our history, I think we knew we’d get past it. But there’s no such thing as confidence in parenthood.”

She went on to admit, “I kind of wish that someone had told me — although I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to understand it — that there’s a level of anxiety, and you think it’s going to go away, but in fact it gets scarier.

Nicki Minaj and Petty met in the 1990s while attending the same high school in New York City.

The two apparently lost touch before reconnecting back in late 2018. The couple shortly tied the knot in October of 2019.

Back in July of 2020, the rapper announced that she and Petty, 45, were expecting their first child together.

The two have not revealed the name of their 3-year-old son’s name, but they do refer to him publicly as “Papa Bear.”

In the conversation with Vogue, Minaj also references the choices they have made since having their son.

Nicki goes on to say that they do not allow him to eat sweets or even drink juice “because of the illnesses like diabetes that run in our community.”

“I’m not in favor of body positivity if it means unhealthy bodies,” she shared. “That’s bull. It’s not believable, so let’s stop pretending.”

Petty has made headlines for his recent strong of legal issues. Many users have issued complaints against Nicki for being with someone who is an offender. Back in April of 1995, the rapper’s husband served more than four years in prison for his altercations with a 16-year-old girl.

As of this past September, Petty was placed on house arrest for threatening Offset, the husband of Nicki Minaj’s longstanding beef with Cardi B.
