Pop-rock star Olivia Rodrigo is teasing arguably her biggest career move yet–a spot on a “Hunger Games” franchise soundtrack. There have been whispers of the singer dropping a new single for the franchise prequel “The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes,” and she first appeared to confirm the suspicions via TikTok. Now, the singer has shared a new cut of the film’s trailer featuring her upcoming new song, “Cant’ Catch Me Now.”

The singer first teased the song when she posed with the iconic rebellion three-finger hand symbol from the films in a brief duet with the latest trailer. Soundtracks for the three original “The Hunger Games” films notably featured a number of young acclaimed artists, including Lorde, The Civil Wars, Charli XCX, Tinashe, The Lumineers, Taylor Swift, and more. The franchise is based on the trilogy of novels and prequel by author Suzanne Collins.
The upcoming film follows a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) as he embarks on a journey of love and loss that ultimately paves his path to becoming president of the fictional post-apocalyptic nation of Panem. Blyth will star alongside Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, an early District 12 tribute who was trapped in the coal mining district amid the fallout of the war.
The prequel takes place several decades ahead of “The Hunger Games” trilogy. The franchise tells the story of a post-apocalyptic North American society that resorts to an annual fight to the death among children between 12 and 18 as a form of population control.

Fans of both Rodrigo and the franchise were excited to see what the singer has in store for her soundtrack song. Rodrigo has carved a name for herself in lilting and ardent ballads and witty, angst fueled rock songs.

Many look forward to Rodrigo’s song and the rest of the featured artists on the upcoming film’s soundtrack. The trilogy paved the way for artists from a variety of different genres to mainstream music careers, and some hope that Rodrigo might even meet a new collaborator from it.
One thing about this franchise that stayed consistent is how much their soundtrack slaps.

The singer most recently released her sophomore album “GUTS” this past September. The album was met with widespread critical and listener acclaim, both for its comical relatability and emotional vulnerability. Unlike some of her Gen Z pop counterparts, Rodrigo cites a number of grunge and punk acts as inspiration. Notably, The Breeders will be opening a leg of her 2024 tour in support of the album.
“The Ballad of Songbirds And Snakes” soundtrack feature would mark Rodrigo’s second soundtrack appearance, as her “GUTS” track “all american b*tch” is featured in the trailer for the upcoming Apple TV+ series “The Buccaneers.”
