Patrick Dempsey has finally earned himself the title of being People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” 2023.
The publication announced the cover Tuesday night on social media.
Dempsey, 57, takes the title following last year’s coveted “Captain America” actor, Chris Evans.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life,” the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum told the outlet.
It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”
“And then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid! I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good,” he said, adding that he was “completely shocked” to learn of the honor.
The Maine native has been married to his wife, Jillian Dempsey, since 1999.

The pair share three kids together including daughter Talula, 21, and twin boys Sullivan and Darby, each 16-years old.
The actor also stated that he is looking forward to all of the jokes that will come up now that he’s been named “sexiest man alive.”
They’re “just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be,” he said of his family. “Which is good, they keep me young.”
Dempsey’s new title was also announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday during a segment on the show.
“I’m just happy they made a decision and it was me this year,” he told Kimmel, before joking, “Never give up on a dream.”
Dempsey stated his family laughed when he told them about his new title.

“They were like, ‘No, seriously, who is it?’ ‘No, it’s me.’ Reality came crashing in,” he added.
The actor mentioned that the magazine keeps the winner’s identity top secret.
“You’re not allowed to talk about it at all,” he said. “You’re not allowed to mention it. Everybody signs these nondisclosures where you’re not allowed to say what they’re doing.”
Others on the list include stars like Paul Rudd, Ryan Reynolds, and Chris Hemsworth.
